Today we will review The alchemist. It is a novel written by Paulo Coelho and was published in 1988. The genre of the book is fiction Novel, Drama, Fantasy, Quest, Fantasy Fiction, and Adventure fiction. Paulo had to struggle a lot in his writing career. His parents were not in the support of him being a writer. He had to do a lot of hard work to make a mark in his field. Despite all the difficulties he made his mark in the world.

SUMMARY:

The writer has described the story using words full of wisdom and philosophy. The reader can clearly see the outburst of optimism while reading the story. The style adopted by the writer in telling the story contains powerful emotions, interesting characters, and a lot of plot twists that make the reader stick to the story.

The story revolves around and an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago. He has a dream in which he saw treasures buried under the pyramids in Egypt. He gets curious about the signs that nature was showing him. Nature is always giving us signs and signals we just have to be willing enough to catch them by using the power of our will. Santiago starts his journey from his homeland Switzerland to Egypt. During his journey, he encounters many people who help him on his journey. The first person he meets is a gypsy woman, who gives him a push to pursue his journey. She tells him that he will have to pay a price to reach the treasure and that simple things are the most extraordinary.

The next person is Melchizedek is a person who claims to be a king and has the supernatural ability to read the mind. We come to know the powerful philosophy of life from him. then he meets a person who claims to be an alchemist. While travelling with a caravan in the oasis he, at last, meets the alchemist in real. During this journey, every character in the story points Santiago in the direction of his quest of searching the treasure. He faces a lot of challenges in his journey. His money gets stolen, he trusts the wrong people, he hits the dead ends gets captured in the desert. But the amazing thing is the plot goes on. His encounter with the alchemist helped in transforming him. His actions and deeds help to change his destiny. he learned to listen to nature.

He actually started the journey for the purpose to find out the treasure of the worldly goods, but fate changed and he ended up finding the hidden treasure inside him (spirituality). He learns about his personal development and creates a new perspective about life and society around him.

The alchemist encourages us to find our personal legends, understand the signs of the universe, and go with the flow. after reading it the reader learns about the new truths of life. We all have some dreams in our life. And want someone to tell us that they will come true one day. It is a short and comprehensive novel full of wise thoughts, wisdom and realities of life. The reader’s mind feels refreshed after an adventurous trip from the meadows of Spain to the desert, oasis, and then finally to the huge pyramids of Egypt. This book deserves a must place in your bookshelves.
